The use of rendered products world-wide has been affected by hygiene concerns such as the spread of BSE, Salmonella in animal feeds and heat treatments imposed by various countries in international trade.

In response the ARA has taken an active role in supporting members to produce safe products that are fit for purpose. The ARA has been particularly active in developing programs to assist members to control Salmonella in meat meal.

The ARA has also contributed to activities to ensure that importing country requirements for heat treatments are negotiated and complied with and is an active member of Australia‚Äôs TSE freedom-assurance program (TSEFAP).
