The Association continues to draw a maximum capacity of participants for its Accreditation Workshop on Hygienic Production of Rendered Animal Products, reaffirming its vital role in educating staff about the hygienic production of rendered animal products. This initiative underscores the commitment of the Australian rendering industry to uphold global standards of excellence. The workshop is located at the University of Queensland at Gatton Queensland and provides training and accommodation facilities.
Successful participants at the Workshop receive a Certificate of Competency from AUS-MEAT Limited and the Australian Renderers Association.
Australia has long been at the forefront of hygienic rendering practices, setting the gold standard for safety and quality in the production of rendered animal products. At the heart of this effort is the Australian Standard for Hygienic Rendering of Animal Products, AS5008, which was developed and implemented with the support of the ARA. This standard has become the cornerstone of rendering practices in Australia and serves as an outstanding model to the rest of the world.
The Australian Standard uses Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) protocols to establish and maintain hygienic rendering practices. These protocols help identify and mitigate potential hazards, ensuring that the rendering process eliminates any bacteria or pathogens that may pose risks to both animal and human health.
Hygienic rendering is the linchpin of Australia’s rendering industry, enabling the production of consistent, high-quality ingredients that cater to the needs of the livestock and pet food market. By adhering to strict standards and protocols, the industry guarantees that its products meet the highest quality benchmarks.
Australia’s commitment to hygienic rendering extends to its biosecurity efforts. The nation has been classified as having a “negligible” risk of Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) by the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE). Australia has not reported any cases of BSE to date, highlighting its unwavering dedication to safeguarding animal and human health.
For those interested in enhancing their knowledge and expertise, the next hygienic training workshops are scheduled in 2024 from January 28th to February 2nd and June 16th to June 21st.
