The Association is excited to announce that it has nominated Associate Professor Mark Harrison from Queensland University of Technology (QUT) to work on a World Renderers Organisation (WRO) rendering technical project.
Mark who is the Deputy Academic Lead – Research at the Centre for Agriculture and Bioeconomy, School of Biology and Environmental Science, was very proud to be nominated and accepted the offer to become Australia’s technical representative. Mark joins a team of international experts on the project.
WRO member country associations were requested to nominate a technical representative to form the Technical Working Group (TWG). The technical endeavor of the TWG aims to provide WOAH with a solid technical foundation, demonstrating that animal-derived meals and fats are secure commodities for international trade, and they do not serve as vectors for transboundary diseases.
The project will be led by Lucas Cypriano, WRO Technical Director, and is due to start at the end of September 2023. The project will proceed by conducting a literature review on the effectiveness of pathogen elimination in the rendering production system (excluding BSE). The TWG will make a presentation to WOAH, which may accept or request further information.
The WRO expects WOAH to approve and acknowledge the technical review and proceed to classify rendered products as safe commodities. The Association plans to incorporate the outcome in the upcoming revisions of the Code.
